Development Associate
Development Associate sought by Population Action International (PAI), a not for profit organization working to improve individual well-being and preserve global resources by mobilizing political and financial support for population, family planning and reproductive health policies and programs. PAI strives to create a world in which humanity and the natural environment exist in balance, fewer people live in poverty, and every person has a right and access to sexual and reproductive health.
Primary responsibilities of this position will be to grow PAI’s revenue by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and providing stewardship to both individual and family foundation donors. The associate will work with program staff to develop grant proposals, research possible funding sources and prepare appropriate submittals following established guidelines. The associate will additionally be responsible to prepare grant reports and ensure all deadlines are met. Working collaboratively with fundraising colleagues, the Associate will work to identify new innovative fundraising strategies including techniques such as direct mail, regional campaigns, special events and major gifts. The Associate will keep abreast of PAI’s program work and accomplishments and articulate this information to funders.
This position requires a baccalaureate degree, plus three to five years fundraising experience, including at least two years in grant proposal development and report writing, and demonstrated experience in the development of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of funders. The successful candidate should possess a working knowledge of fundraising principles and ethics in a fund development context; possess a high level of initiative; be able to work with minimal supervision; expect to travel frequently; have persuasive oral and written communication skills; experience and proven track record of soliciting and securing funders, and work effectively with volunteers.
