New Report Underscores the Need for Family Planning in PEPFAR Countries

Family planning and reproductive health programs are critical to the health and well-being of women, children and families around the world and are a key component of the success of HIV prevention programs and treatment programs. But, tragically, these life-saving programs are receiving declining support, endangering the future sustainability and success of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). PAI’s latest report, U.S. HIV/AIDS and Family Planning/Reproductive Health Assistance: A Growing Disparity Within PEPFAR Focus Countries, explores the links between family planning and HIV prevention and advocates for increased support for family planning programs.

Abstaining From Reality Inspires a Music Video!

PAI’s landmark documentary, Abstaining from Reality, has inspired a new song and music video from L.A.-based band, Max and the Marginalized. The band, fronted by Max Bernstein (son of Carl Bernstein of Woodward and Bernstein fame and writer/producer Nora Ephron), uses current events as their raw material for writing a new song every week which they release online to the Huffington Post, MySpace and YouTube. The lyrics of Abstaining from Reality’s song, “Lectures for the Dying,” specifically address the ineffectiveness of the abstinence-only earmark in the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

Feeling Fatigued?

Donor Fatigue: A state in which donors feel "tapped out" after too many appeals for donations from different organizations in a short period of time.

While many people are recovering from the holidays and suffering somewhat from donor fatigue, we ask you to join us as we face the challenges that a new year brings. First, and most importantly, we need to take the time to celebrate our past accomplishments as our successes empower us for the future. Next, as we turn the calendar to a new year, we should think of it as hitting reset button on our computers. What we mean is... It's time to Reboot, Reenergize and Ready ourselves for the work ahead. It's important to remember that the women and families who need our help can't afford to take a time out. They need access to family planning and reproductive health supplies and services and they need that access now.

So don't let fatigue get in your way... your support makes a difference!!
