PAI Works on Capitol Hill for Family Planning Funding and to Improve PEPFAR

On Capitol Hill, PAI and international family planning advocates are spearheading efforts to significantly boost funding for international family planning programs, while working to thwart the addition of anti-family provisions to the reauthorization of the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Congressional Briefing for World Population Day

On Thursday, July 10, PAI and a coalition of more than a dozen partner organizations, including the United Nations Foundation, the Centre for Development & Population Activities (CEDPA), the Communications Consortium Media Center, the Global Health Council, and the Sierra Club, joined with family planning champions Representatives Betty McCollum (D-MN) and Russ Carnahan (D-MO) to host a congressional briefing commemorating the 21st annual World Population Day. Moderated by PAI’s Vice President for Government Relations, Tod Preston, the forum provided a timely opportunity for panelists and guests to highlight the need for increasing U.S. funding for international family planning and reproductive health.

Supporting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Advocacy in Zambia

Zambia’s severe HIV/AIDS epidemic has rightfully dominated much of the country’s health and development agenda for the last decade. The role of family planning and reproductive health care, however, has largely been overlooked and excluded from Zambia’s HIV/AIDS response. In a bid to help Zambian partners reprioritize reproductive health services and contraception, PAI recently approved a one-year advocacy grant to three local NGOs to rebuild political will and financial support for sexual and reproductive health and rights, services and supplies.

PAI’s Study Tour to Mexico City is a Success!

PAI’s Study Tour to Mexico proved to be an amazing opportunity for exploring how PAI’s policy and advocacy work and research affects the lives of women who lack access to the reproductive health care they need. The goal of the Study Tour was to provide participants with a “behind the scenes” look at the reproductive health and family planning services available to women in Mexico.

PAI Ships Resources to the Sudanese Population Network

PAI’s international advocacy efforts can take many shapes, including supporting a fledging network in the heart of Sudan with resources from our library. In May 2008, PAI donated 200 books, reports, magazines, and Fact Sheets to the Sudanese Population Network’s new resource center, designed to promote information exchange and facilitate the dissemination of information on population, family planning, and reproductive health issues.
