PAI Applauds Obama for Repeal of Bush's Global Gag Rule, Helping Save Women's Lives

WASHINGTON— In a decision that will help prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce abortions and, ultimately, save women's lives around the world, on January 23, President Obama rescinded the damaging Global Gag Rule and stated his intentions to fund UNFPA. Notably, President Obama called for the "end of the politicization" of international family planning assistance, and directed his Administration to begin a "new dialogue" on these issues, focused on finding areas of common ground that best meet the needs of women and families globally. As quoted in over 200 media outlets, including the New York Times, CNN.com, and the Wall Street Journal, PAI has long advocated for both the repeal of the Gag Rule and the refunding of UNFPA.
