Population Action International Thanks Representative Yvette Clarke for Championing Women’s Health and Rights

Washington, DC – Population Action International (PAI) commends Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) on her reintroduction of the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act. This crucial bill, which was also introduced in the 111th and 112th Congresses, would help women around the world gain access to essential family planning supplies and services and broader reproductive health care.

“I applaud Rep. Clarke and the bill’s 31 co-sponsors for leading the charge to make quality reproductive health care a reality for women and families the world over,” said Suzanne Ehlers, President and CEO of PAI. “The Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act would expand access to integrated family planning and health services, prevent the spread of STIs, help to reduce gender-based violence, and much more. Rep. Clarke’s bill affirms what we have long known: sexual and reproductive health and rights are the key to economic and social empowerment for all people.”

Prioritizing reproductive health strengthens our investments in the developing world and speeds progress toward the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. PAI is proud to support ongoing efforts to ensure every person has access to sexual and reproductive health care so women, communities and nations can thrive.
